Campaign themes

2016

Espana's 2016 campaign website highlighted the following goals:

  • For A Safer District 9, for Business Growth, Senior Citizens & Youth Empowerment.
  • We want to implement real practical solutions to reduce Teen Violence and Crime. We need to create more local jobs. We need more support for events that support cultural heritage, local business and the community arts.
  • For More Support for Schools/Teachers, After School Programs, Parents and our Kids.
  • We need to increase funding to local schools and programs serving our youth, and our kids. It is time for the City to stop shortchanging school and educational space and budgets.
  • For Real Housing Solutions, Ellis Act Reform, and No Over Promises with No Delivery. We need to cut the bureaucracy and red tape, 2 years to issue permits to build affordable housing is too long.
  • For Protection of Renters, Individual and Local Small Businesses. Small Business and individuals are not protected from evictions. We need to support advocacy groups and hardworking people in the neighborhood.
  • Accountability of services! The city needs to respect the cultural heritage and history of our neighborhoods, in the Mission, Portola and Bernal Heights areas.[3][4]
