An effort to recall Mayor Jean Stothert did not go to a vote in Omaha, Nebraska.[1]
Stothert was elected as mayor of Omaha in 2013. She was re-elected in 2017 and 2021.
Recall supporters
The recall's principal circulator was Jonathan Renteria, who said that the recall was initiated over a "failure to repeal the restaurant tax, political opportunism in convening a faux charter convention reducing the number of charter convention members from 25 to 15, all while attempting to increase the cash reserve slush fund from 8% to 12%."[2]

No specific grounds are required for recall in Nebraska.[3] The number of signatures required to put the recall on the ballot depends on the office type. A majority of offices require signatures equal to 35% of the total vote cast for that office in the last general election.[4] Petition signatures must be filed within 30 days of the filing clerk issuing the petitions.[5]
Petitions in the recall effort against Stothert were submitted on July 3, 2023.[1] Organizers would have needed over 34,000 valid signatures to put the recall on the ballot.[6]
