Elections for the Georgia House of Representatives took place in 2014. A primary election took place on May 20, 2014, with runoff elections taking place where necessary on July 22, 2014. The general election was held on November 4, 2014. The signature filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was March 7, 2014. Incumbent Scot Turner was unopposed in the Republican primary and was unchallenged in the general election.[3][4] Jeffrey N. Amason (L) filed to run but was disqualified from the ballot on July 23.[5] This ruling was upheld when Amason named the wrong defendant in his lawsuit while attempting to get back on the ballot.[6]

Campaign themes

Amason submitted the following comments to Ballotpedia:[2]

I oppose the federal intrusion into Georgia's policies through its "power of the purse." The federal government has over-taxed Georgians, and we should not add insult to injury by giving away our rights for a few dollars.

I strongly support the Fair Tax as a replacement for the Georgia income tax system.

Diligence must be maintained to protect our property rights, parental rights, and religious freedoms.

I am personally pro-life and believe that Georgians should have control over their own health care decisions without burdensome mandates from the Federal Government.

I am a life-long supporter of the Constitutional right to bear arms. I obtained my first concealed carry firearm license in 1987.[7]

Personal philosophy

Amason submitted the following statement about his political philosophy to Ballotpedia:[2]

As a Libertarian, I believe the rule of law should apply to everyone equally and that this principle is the foundation that makes this country great. The Federal government's role should not extend beyond its Constitutional limits and it is the responsibility of the individual States to ensure that government's power is applied as minimally as possible to ensure the maximum protection of life, liberty, property and the pursuit of happiness.[7]
