I am a fifth generation Nebraskan that was born in a small Nebraskan town and now live in Lincoln. I have studied at all four University of Nebraska campuses, and served as faculty at nine universities in four states. I have provided director-level leadership at large institutions for 30 years, including 19-years membership on three boards of directors. I am married and have 3 boys with the youngest enrolled into UNL this fall.
  • My top priority would be to address the current labor crisis. Multiple studies indicate that Nebraska will have a critical shortage of several professions in the next 5 years. The ongoing lack of applicants to our universities is concerning. We need to turn this around for our economy, for our health and also for our future.
  • The University is expected to provide a unique offering to post-secondary students to expand Nebraska’s educational offerings to advanced learning. The universities’ role should drive growth, innovation, advancement and knowledge for business and professional needs. Creating better academics, improved athletics and research is needed to recruit top talent to Nebraska.
  • Education is expensive for both our students and our taxes. We need to address both and I am confident there are many solutions. Appropriately managing costs is a challenge I have successfully faced in most of my leadership roles over my career. Thoughtful review of expenditures is necessary to avoid indiscriminate cuts in services and programs. Collaboration within departments could create efficiencies. Innovation can cut utility costs, while being eco-friendly. Innovation in class management could help students be more successful by offering in person, online or internships while allowing research revenues by faculty to help manage expense.
Healthcare is a key driver for me and we all expect it to be available when we need it. I am gravely concerned we will not have enough healthcare providers (doctors, nurses, pharmacists, and many other professionals) unless someone takes immediate action. The old adage that if you do not have your health, you have nothing.
Most individuals that have worked with me over the past 40-years have commented on following qualities: leadership, collaboration, excellence-driven, futuristic (strategic), compassionate, innovative and trustworthy. Therefore, this role should compliment my qualities based on past performance. My passion for life-long learning and process improvement may also be helpful.
Whether you are a republican, a democrat or an independent voter, you all know that leadership is important. The Board of Regents is expected to play a key leadership role in selecting the top ranking positions at each university. Therefore, I feel compelled to run for Regent so our state can be better positioned to make the right decisions which impact our academics, our athletics and our university rankings. I did graduate from UNMC when we were considered a top 10 pharmacy college. Based on the last college rankings from Fiske Guide to Colleges for 2024, UNL was average. Our young adults deserve better, our state deserves better, we can do better! Nebraska universities need a lot of change to compete nationally for top talent, top faculty and innovative programs. Let's get serious and bring Nebraska back to national status.
My primary role is to leave this place better than I found it. In particular, I am running for this office to improve our education process at our universities.
Helped on the family farm and local farmers (8 years)
Leadership is essential for setting the course correction at our Universities. Currently UNL is ranked last place for Big 10 schools for student return of investment (ROI). Most rankings put UNL as average or over 150th for Universities in the USA. This needs change which is a primary reason why I am running for regent.
Leadership, Strategic Planning, Collaboration, Innovation, and Academic experience

Campaign website

Wohleb’s campaign website stated the following:

WHY AM I RUNNING:
Our universities are not creating enough teachers, doctors, and other highly skilled graduates. Without change, our children need better opportunities, our healthcare is at risk, and Nebraska’s future success will be questionable. Leadership, commitment, innovation and hard work is needed to turn this trend around. As a small-town farm boy, I know hard work. As a pharmacist, I know commitment to healthcare. As an educator, I have been committed to students as a faculty member for 7 universities in 4 states which gives me experience in academia. As a pharmacy director and board member for 25 years, I thrive on innovation and leadership. I ask for your vote for the Board of Regents as the district 5 representative. Give future generations what they deserve, opportunities for Nebraska.

EXPERIENCE
I have attended or contributed to 15 universities or colleges in my career, I know what to do. My experience is associated with turn around efforts for many organizations, I am effective in creating successful results. Leadership, action oriented, results driven, and integrity compliment outcomes with several programs.

PHILOSOPHIES
I am not a politician, I am a Nebraskan that cares about education and our sports programs.
I am not an extremist, I am someone with common sense and a strong collaborator to improve our mission and culture at the universities.
I am not a looking for recognition, I am someone that sees changes are needed in leadership.[2]
