Campaign themes
2016
Ford's campaign website highlighted the following issues:
“ |
Inclusion of Women: I would like for the complete inclusion of women in the state’s affairs. Equality and justice for all women, whether at home or in the workplace, is what I want to see. We live in a society that is continuously progressing and advancing, the role of women in our economy and as individuals should be evolving with that movement. In line with this, I am committed to working towards changing laws and policies that threaten women’s physical or economic health in any way. Criminal Justice: I believe democracy is for all and that the more productive citizens we have participating in the ‘American Dream’, the better we are as a nation. Yet our current state of justice instead creates both public cost and a private financial reward for government failing in the areas of education, public safety, health and due process. Hyper-prosecution and over-incarceration have now developed into a fiscal crisis. Small Businesses: In Texas, each and every citizen is adding to the economy, and so each individual deserves to have the state introduce policies that will aid their small businesses. The new ‘margins tax’ introduced by Republicans has become more of a burden than support. The attitude of wanting to support big businesses at the cost of small businesses needs to be amended. In line with this, I bid comprehensive and efficient supervision in order to thwart large corporations from being permanently taken off the tax rolls. Education Sector: I believe that in order to improve students’ progress and overall achievements, well-qualified teachers need to be hired and an educational system that encourages critical and creative thinking needs to be enforced. Not to mention, a greater emphasis needs to be put on completing a four-year college education. Health Care: I strongly believe that health care is a right and not a privilege reserved for those who can pay. I oppose Republican politicians who aspire to revoke health insurance reform. This would permit insurance establishments to differentiate against Americans that have sicknesses, stopping them from getting the care they deserve. I support implementation at the state level of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act in order to protect the Americans’ health care entitlements.[1] |
