Somerset Township Treasurer Joshua Bice resigned in May 2022 in response to an effort to recall him from office.[1]
Recall supporters
Jerome resident Custis Gale initiated the recall effort. Gale alleged that Bice, along with other town board members, had paid Supervisor Tim Shaw for services performed with the township fire department, even though Shaw was not an employee of the fire department.[1]

The Hillsdale County Election Commission approved the recall petition language in a hearing on May 3.[1] For a recall election to have been scheduled, organizers would have needed to collect signatures equal to 25% of the votes cast in the township in the previous gubernatorial election.
