Karen Ballard Molzen is a former federal magistrate judge for the United States District Court for the District of New Mexico. She was appointed to this position on April 26, 1999.[1] She served as chief magistrate judge from 2011 to 2018. Molzen retired from the court in May 2019.[2]

Education

Judge Molzen attended New Mexico State University from 1971 to 1973 and then received her B.S. degree in Cellular Biology from the University of Kansas in 1975. She earned her J.D. degree from the University of New Mexico in 1985.[3]

Career

Judge Molzen began her career in 1986 as a law clerk to U.S. District Court Judge John Conway in District of New Mexico. She clerked for Judge Conway until 1988 and again from 1991 to 1999. From 1989 to 1991, she worked as a private practice lawyer. She became a magistrate judge in 1999.[3]
