My favorite book is "Better" by Atul Gawande. This insightful book deeply resonates with me because it explores the importance of diligence, ethical responsibility, and continuous improvement. Gawande's reflections on striving to be better in every aspect of life, particularly in the field of medicine, offer powerful lessons that can be applied to public service. The book's emphasis on innovative problem-solving and commitment to doing the right thing aligns closely with my own values and approach to governance. "Better" inspires me to always seek ways to improve and make a positive impact in our community.
I believe that financial transparency and government accountability are essential pillars of effective governance. Financial transparency ensures that public resources are managed responsibly and that the budgeting process is open to scrutiny. This involves providing clear, accessible information on revenues, expenditures, and debts, releasing regular financial reports, and supporting independent audits. Government accountability is achieved through responsiveness to residents' concerns, upholding ethical conduct, and implementing performance metrics to evaluate the effectiveness of programs and initiatives. Encouraging citizen engagement through town halls, public forums, and advisory committees, as well as advocating for open meetings, further strengthens accountability. By prioritizing these principles, we can build a trustworthy, effective, and responsive local government that truly serves the needs of all residents.
