Recall supporters
Recall supporters submitted eight petitions, four against Gustafson and four against Rippee, to the Midland County Election Commission. Residents Jasna Appell, Doug Kruger, Debra Reiber, and Carol Schaefer submitted recall petitions.
The commission approved four of the petitions, two against Gustafson and two against Rippee.
Language from one of the approved petitions against Gustafson read, "On March 8, Gustafson voted 'yes' on a motion to transition township trash removal process from the Lee Twp. waste station to a 'curbside without recycle' solution, without utilizing the Lee Twp. bid process nor establishing an assessed district."
The second approved petition gave a similar ground for recall, citing a "resolution on April 12, (which) increased the annual waste charge to residents from $85 to $226; and solid waste resolutions, voted on May 4 and 10, to stop the referendum regarding Lee Twp. waste services."
