Lawton Public Schools Elections

General election date:
February 9, 2016
Enrollment (13–14):
15,463 students

One of the five seats on the Lawton Public Schools school board was up for general election on February 9, 2016. Area 1 incumbent Donna Ronio was defeated by challenger Carla Clodfelter.[1][2]

The two-candidate race fit with a history of low-contest elections in the district. The annual elections in 2012, 2013, and 2015 were canceled due to unopposed races, and the 2014 election saw just two candidates file for the one available seat.

Elections

Voter and candidate information

The Lawton school board consists of five members elected by district to five-year terms. The Area 1 seat was scheduled for election in 2016. There was no primary election, and the general election was held on February 9, 2016. A runoff election could have been held on April 5, 2016, if no candidate won a majority of votes cast in the general election. As only two candidates filed for the seat, no runoff was possible.

Candidates had to file affidavits of candidacy between December 7, 2015, and December 9, 2015. The voter registration deadline for the general election was January 16, 2016.
