Issues

On her campaign website, Copeland highlighted three issue areas affecting Baltimore:[2]

Tax and Fee Relief

Baltimore has numerous taxes and fees that burden families and small businesses, including by far the highest property tax in the entire state. I believe government must practice fiscal responsibility and that lower taxes will help make Baltimore more appealing to small businesses, encourage population and economic growth and subsequently increase the overall tax revenues collected by the City.[2][3]

Reduce Crime

There are numerous socio-economic causes that contribute to the recent spike in violent crime across our city and many of those causes cannot be fixed by government. However, government does have a role and my multi-pronged approach to reducing crime would include increasing visibility of police in our community, providing funding for private citizens on patrol efforts, and restore funding for Police Athletic Leagues to serve as after-school centers to restore trust between the department and members of the community.[2][3]

Reform Government

The City Council has not conducted audits on all City agencies in over thirty years. As your 1st District City Councilmember, I would require across-the-board audits of all agencies, mandatory auditing schedules, zero-based annual budgeting, and other initiatives to prevent wasteful spending while improving the performance of City services.[2][3]
