Martha Mavredes is the former Virginia Auditor of Public Accounts. Mavredes was first appointed to the position effective January 1, 2013, succeeding veteran state auditor Walter Kucharski.[1][2] Mavredes retired on January 1, 2021.[3]

Mavredes received her bachelor's degree from The College of William and Mary and her master's degree from Virginia Commonwealth University. She also attended the Virginia Executive Institute, a management training program for state executives.

Prior to her appointment by the Virginia General Assembly, Mavredes served as the Deputy Auditor of Public Accounts. Before serving the commonwealth, Mavredes was an auditor at Peat, Marwick, Mitchell & Co., specializing in local government and banking audits.[1]

Political career

State Auditor (2013-2021)

Mavredes assumed office as Virginia Auditor of Public Accounts on January 1, 2013, and served until her retirement on January 1, 2021. She had previously served as the Deputy Auditor under her predecessor Walter Kucharski. The officeholder is responsible for auditing the accounts of every state department, officer, board, commission, institution, or agency handling any state funds.[4]
