Merle Scheiber is the former South Dakota Director of Insurance. He was first appointed to the position on August 8, 2005, by then-Governor Mike Rounds. Scheiber resigned from office effective December 29, 2014.[1]

Before his appointment, Scheiber worked for 25 years in the insurance industry. He worked as a personal lines manager, commercial lines manager and a vice president of marketing and underwriting. Scheiber has been a Certified Insurance Counselor since 1994.[2]
