I moved to Plainfield Township in 2012 and have worked remotely in HR and startup operations for much of that time. Community is very important to me so I have looked for opportunities to become more involved in the local community where I can. I've been appointed by previous and current Plainfield Charter Township boards to serve on the Plainfield Township Community Center Committee, the Planning Commission, and the Brownfield Redevelopment Authority. I believe that we all have a responsibility to contribute to the community we want to be a part of, no matter how big or small the contribution is. Serving on these committees and the board are how I can do my part to build a happy, healthy, and safe community.
  • Prudent Decision Making. Whether we're talking about planning issues or the budget, I aim to make smart decisions that consider both the short- and long-term impacts. I commit to educating myself on all issues, listening to the public and experts, and remaining objective in my decision making.
  • Prepared Public Safety. We have a growing community with many needs and I will work with our public safety professionals to ensure they have the resources needed to provide exceptional services to our residents during the day-to-day emergencies and unexpected events.
  • Continued Progress. We have many opportunities to continue making progress on areas of the community that have already started - parks and trails development, Plainfield Avenue beautification, and creating a supportive business climate. Things take time to be made and I will support the initiatives that are already in progress.
I am passionate about creating housing opportunities that meet the needs of all members of the community. This includes having enough housing for everyone, having a variety of housing options for people to choose from, and integrating housing with surrounding green spaces and commercial areas in a smart and effective way.
Above all, I believe commitment is the most important characteristic an elected official can have - a commitment to learning about new areas, a commitment to listening to the people you represent, and a commitment to service to others.
Throughout my professional career in HR, I've often found myself in the middle between employees and the business. I've learned how to listen to all sides, see different perspectives, and help people understand how decisions are made. I believe this is very similar to the role of a local government official.
I do believe it is important for office holders to have previous experience with the township in some capacity. There are so many issues that will come before you in this position and everything is interconnected, so having experience provides important context on the history of the area and the needs of the constituents.
Tom Coleman - Current Plainfield Township Supervisor, Bob Homan - Former Plainfield Township Supervisor, Art Spalding - Former Plainfield Township Trustee, Kathey Batey - Current Trustee, Michigan Democratic Party Rural Caucus
