Biography

Kim holds a B.S. in Neuroscience from Bucknell University, and an M.A. in Urban Education Policy and Administration from the Loyola Marymount University, Los Angeles.[1] At the time of his appointment, Kim worked for a decade with KIPP Northern California Public Schools, a charter-school system operating multiple campuses under SFUSD and more recently served as the Executive Director of School Strategy and Coherence in the Office of the Superintendent. [2][3]

Four of the seven seats on the San Francisco Unified School District Board of Education were up for at-large general election on November 8, 2016. In their bids for re-election, incumbents Matthew Haney, Rachel Norton, and Jill Wynns ran against challengers Stevon Cook, Rob Geller, Ian Kalin, Phillip Kim, Trevor McNeil, and Mark Sanchez.[4] Haney and Norton won re-election, and Sanchez and Cook won the other two seats on the ballot.[5]

Kim reported $11,484.00 in contributions and $9,261.82 in expenditures to the San Francisco Ethics Commission, which left his campaign with $2,322.18 on hand as of October 22, 2016.[6]
