Children are our future and they will determine the trajectory of the world. I am somebody who is passionate about protecting and strengthening that future, and I want to bring all the value I possibly can to our neighborhoods, our schools and our communities. We must focus on education that builds compassion, builds problem solving and critical thinking, collaboration, and communication. That is why I am so passionate about running for the Santa Clara County Board of Education.

I am a Mom, a County of Santa Clara Health Advisory Commissioner, a non-profit Board member, and have been a parent volunteer from Preschool to College levels. I came to the US to attend Bryn Mawr College, where I received a BA in Economics, and then to the University of Chicago Booth School of Business for an MBA with concentrations in Economics and Finance, after which I worked as a Research Economist for many years.

I have been a proud resident of Santa Clara County ever since I moved to the US almost 30 years ago. I have lived for almost a quarter of a century in the same house in the same neighborhood. I am a strong proponent of supporting our children and all the stakeholders - our parents, our educators, who all work so hard for student wellness and well being.
  • Preparing each and every student for the future by meeting students where they are: When a student requires individualized attention to catch up or advanced level coursework to stay engaged, our job is to provide them what is neccessary for their growth and enrichment. We have to empower children and hold the education system accountable for their well-being. After school care is important to bridge any existing gaps.
  • Prioritizing mental and physical health and wellness: As a Health Advisory Commissioner, I recognize that children cannot learn and teachers cannot teach if they are not doing well. We need to be in prevention mode for both mental and physical health issues. Early detection is key for prevention. This includes having enough counselors in school with an open door policy. Services readily available in school are used more often.
  • Advocating for equitable pay for teachers and access to affordable housing in the neighborhoods they work in: Studies have shown that higher teacher pay is linked to better learning outcomes. When educators are less stressed, they can focus on their students.
I am personally passionate about all the above priorities as well as ensuring inclusion. Santa Clara County is one of the most diverse counties in California, and California is one of the most diverse states in our nation. Every student deserves to feel represented by the inclusion of their stories in their school day. The Board of Education's "My Name, My identity", where pledges are taken to pronounce names correctly, is a very valuable initiative in creating an inclusive and respectful community. We need to build on this initiative to include more representation in the school day reflecting our community populations.
The passion to serve their constituents, the integrity to do the right thing, and make a lasting contribution to their community.
I always want to add value and always persevere in the face of challenges. I am a believer in doing the best possible work I can to improve outcomes. I strongly believe we all have a responsibility to leave our children well equipped to handle future challenges.
To listen to their constituents, to try to solve the issues impacting the students and educators, to make the best decisions in their interests.
"Becoming" by Michelle Obama.

It is my favorite book because I found it inspiring, moving, and powerful. She talks about her journey of finding her voice and her place in the world. This resonated with my own story just as it did with so many others.

I was particularly impressed by her advocacy for women and young girls, and her focus on how to lead healthier, more fulfilling, lives.
