Florida's 18th Congressional District was a battleground district in 2016. Incumbent Patrick Murphy (D) chose not to seek re-election in 2016 in order to pursue a U.S. Senate bid. Campaign themes

2016

The following issues were listed on Negron's campaign website. For a full list of campaign themes, click here.

  • Choice In Education: As a mother of three children and a School Board member in Martin County since 2012, I am passionate about parents having every option open when it comes to the education of their children. With the the federal overreach of No Child Left Behind, Common Core and the out of control testing it has generated, parents are looking for options. Excellence must be returned to education. To do that, decision making must be returned to the states, school districts, and most importantly classroom teachers and parents.
  • Boost Our Economy and Create Jobs: Our economy has grown less than one percent for the first half of this year. The Obama approach to job creation is a proven failure and government overreach at its worst. Regulations don’t create jobs. Washington D.C. doesn’t create jobs. Private businesses create jobs.
  • Balance Our Budget: Our national debt is skyrocketing due to Washington’s reckless spending. This hurts our economy and allows foreign governments to own more and more of America. When Barack Obama took office, the national debt was $10.6 trillion, about $26,000 for every man, woman and child. Today our national debt is over $18 trillion, over $55,000 for every man, woman and child. It’s time for a leader who can say no.
  • Oppose Government Bailouts and Subsidies: It is unconscionable that the government uses taxpayer money to protect big banks, billionaires and big corporations from taking responsibility for their bad business decisions. I will oppose these bailouts. They are unfair, waste taxpayer money, and they encourage more bad decision making.
  • Fix Our Health Care System : Before we repeal Obamacare (which we must), we need to have a plan in place to address the issues facing us in healthcare. This huge government takeover of healthcare is killing jobs, causing enormous increases in premiums rates for Floridians and for Americans, and has reduced patient choice.
