Robert G. MacDonald is a judge of the Virginia 1st Judicial Circuit. He was appointed to the court by the Virginia General Assembly on February 23, 2021.[1]

MacDonald was a district court judge for the 1st Judicial District in Virginia. He served on the court from 2015 to 2020. He was elected to the court by the Virginia General Assembly on November 10, 2014, to fill the vacancy created by the elevation of Judge Timothy S. Wright to the 1st Judicial Circuit. Wright stepped down on December 31, 2014, and MacDonald assumed office on January 1, 2015, for a six-year term which expired on December 31, 2020.[2][3][4][5]

Education

MacDonald received his undergraduate degree from the Virginia Wesleyan College in 1986 and his J.D. degree from the T.C. Williams School of Law at the University of Richmond in 1989.[6]

Career

Before he joined the 1st Judicial District court, MacDonald practiced law with the firm of MacDonald, Plumlee and Overton Law P.C. in Chesapeake, Virginia.[6]
