Maybank's campaign website highlighted the following issues:
“ |
Infrastructure: We must develop a comprehensive land use plan and have it integrated with local municipalities and the state. We need better coordination to help manage growth and transportation issues. We’ve waited more than 20 years for the completion of I-526 and now it appears dead in the water with no alternative plans to solve and or manage existing traffic issues. Education: Education is a top priority and frankly, the General Assembly has “kicked the can down the road” far too long when it comes to educating our school children. Teachers are being asked to do more with less while school districts can’t properly manage existing public funds. I believe we need more community based schools with smaller class sizes. We need to create an environment that allows teachers to do what they do best – teach! This will allow our young people to become well educated and productive members of the community. Job Growth: Building a solid, diversified business environment for the citizens of the Lowcountry is a significant pillar to creating a successful society. A diversified economy, combined with strong educational opportunities, local integrated infrastructure needs, and world class medical facilities, will allow our community to continue to flourish and grow. Trust and Accountability: However, all these gains may be for naught if those elected individuals do not have the trust of the voting public. Clearly, we need ethics reform now for elected officials. It doesn’t make sense to me that there are separate ethics committees for the House, the Senate and other elected officials. The fact that House and Senate members are looking out for themselves reminds me of the fox watching the hen house. I believe in transparency and accountability, and currently the voters lose when it comes to current rules that do not allow for transparency. We’ve read too many news headlines of questionable conflicts of interest for too many years, and nothing seems to get done. You must have trust from those who represent us.[1] |
