August 30, 2023: Thirty-six percent (36%) of voters have bought back-to-school supplies for themselves or their family members over the past few weeks. A Scott Rasmussen National survey found that, among those who have bought school supplies, 78% say those school supplies have been more expensive than in previous years. This includes 34% who say they have been much more expensive. The survey also found that just 11% say those school supplies have been less expensive than in previous years, and 8% say they have been about the same.

Methodology

The survey of 1,000 registered voters was conducted online by Scott Rasmussen on August 14-15, 2023. Field work for the survey was conducted by RMG Research, Inc. Certain quotas were applied, and the -sample was lightly weighted by geography, gender, age, race, education, internet usage, and political party to reasonably reflect the nation’s population of registered voters. Other variables were reviewed to ensure that the final sample is representative of that population.

The margin of sampling error for the full sample is +/- 3.1 percentage points.
