January 29, 2025: Eighty-six percent (86%) of voters have very (32%) or somewhat (54%) closely followed news stories of the wildfires in California. A Napolitan News Service national survey conducted by RMG Research found 14% have not very (11%) or not at all (3%) closely followed the news stories.
The survey also found 69% say the fires are getting so much news coverage primarily because they are worse than usual. Twenty-three percent (23%) say it is because they are affecting wealthy celebrities.
Methodology
The survey of 1,000 registered voters was conducted online by Scott Rasmussen on January 15-16, 2025. Fieldwork for the survey was conducted by RMG Research, Inc. Certain quotas were applied, and the sample was lightly weighted by geography, gender, age, race, education, internet usage, and political party to reasonably reflect the nation’s population of registered voters. Other variables were reviewed to ensure that the final sample is representative of that population. The margin of sampling error for the full sample is +/- 3.1 percentage points.
