March 14, 2018: Eleven percent (11%) of Americans don’t use the internet. As you might suspect, there is a significant generation gap in the online world.[1]
A Pew Research study found that just about every adult under 50 is connected to the online world. That includes 98% of under-30-year-olds and 97% of 30- and 40-somethings.
However, among those aged 50 to 64, just 87% are online. And among those over 65, participation drops to 66%.
Connectivity is also lower among those without a high school degree, those who make less than $30,000 a year, and people living in rural areas.
The speed at which the internet has become the new normal is astounding. At the beginning of this century, 48% of Americans did not use the internet.
