Campaign themes
2015
In a statement about her bid for re-election, Bidar-Sielaff highlighted the following issues:[8]
| “ |
I will continue to work tirelessly to directly address racial disparities through concrete steps the city can take such as (1) implementing its own multi-pronged recommendations regarding hiring, purchasing, policy-making and service delivery (2) viewing every city practice and policy through the lens of equity and inclusion (3) advocating and working toward a collective impact model that listens to the voices of our communities of color as they set the agenda for their communities and acts on their agenda in a collaborative, cross-jurisdictional manner and (4) continuously convening individuals, organizations and businesses around both specific issues and this essential broader conversation. Some of the specific priorities that we must act upon to remove barriers to opportunities are increasing our number of affordable housing units, investing in employment training programs, and ensuring access to high-quality early childhood and pre-school education. As an alder, while working across many spectrums to effect change, I must also remain focused on the practical needs of my district and the city. I will continue to work daily with my constituents on matters such as approvals for commercial and residential projects; addressing parking, transportation, and traffic questions and concerns; improving the understanding and implementation of our landmarks ordinance; and being responsive to general inquiries about how the city and its residents and businesses interact.[9] |
