Three seats on the Stafford County Public Schools School Board were up for general election on November 3, 2015. The seats of George Washington District incumbent Dewayne McOsker Jr., Griffis-Widewater District incumbent Dana Reinboldt and Rock Hill District incumbent Patricia Healy were up for election.[1]

McOsker defeated challengers Carol Huebner Medawar and Donna Oliver for the George Washington District seat. Emily Fallon defeated incumbent Reinboldt for the Griffis-Widewater District seat, while board member Healy won re-election to the Rock Hill District seat against newcomer Dean Fetterolf.

Stafford County Public Schools is located in northeast Virginia in Stafford County. The county seat of Stafford County is Stafford. Stafford County was home to 139,992 residents in 2014, according to estimates by the United States Census Bureau.[2] In the 2012-2013 school year, Stafford County Public Schools was the sixth-largest school district in Virginia and served 27,463 students.[3]

Demographics

Stafford County outperformed the rest of Virginia in terms of higher education achievement in 2013. The United States Census Bureau found that 36.2 percent of county residents aged 25 years and older had attained a bachelor's degree, compared to 35.2 percent for Virginia as a whole. The median household income in Stafford County was $97,110, compared to $63,907 for the state of Virginia. The poverty rate was 5.1 percent, compared to 11.3 percent for the entire state.[2]

Voter and candidate information

The Stafford County School Board is a seven-member board elected by district to staggered four-year terms. Seats in George Washington, Griffis-Widewater and Rock Hill Districts were on the ballot in 2015. The general election was held on November 3, 2015. The next scheduled election for seats in Aquia, Falmouth, Garrisonville and Hartwood Districts was November 2017. The filing deadline for candidates interested in running for the board was June 9, 2015.[5][6]
