Retired as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist in March 2020. Provided anesthesia services in multiple rural communities since December 1998 including McAlester, Eufuala, Stigler, Sallisaw, Shawnee, Vinita, Muskogee, Ardmore as well as Tulsa and Oklahoma City. Became involved in state politics as result of practice and joined the Oklahoma Democratic Party in 2004. Once again resident of Tulsa since 2006. Currently member of Will Rogers Rotary and Tulsa's Hope Unitarian Church.
  • There are no members of the Democratic Caucus at the Capitol with any career experience in health care.
  • Access to affordable health care in an imperative for all citizens.
  • Fiscal responsibility is the least any public servant can offer those they serve.
Health care, access and affordability, was a passion even before the Covid-19 crisis. Ardent proponent of the Affordable Care Act and full Medicaid expansion. Strongly motivated to address chronic health issues not yet curable, specifically Alzheimer's Disease and endemic problems such as obesity, addiction and associated afflictions. Strong advocate of making Oklahoma a more attractive place to recruit health care providers at all levels.
The ability to make one's opinion fit reality rather than insist on reality fitting one's opinion.
Discipline, diligence and acute observation skills and analytical ability.
One of service. I would like to leave behind policies in place to make life easier for others who are facing a personal or family crisis.
The Apollo 11 moonshot, especially Neil Armstrong's "One small step for man, one giant leap for Mankind." I was ten years old and full of hope for the future of humanity.
Brother Love's Travelin' Salvation Show by Neil Diamond
Faith. It was not a matter of convincing everyone else. It was a matter of convincing myself.
It is helpful but not imperative. A working knowledge of representative democracy and how the institutions of government function and interface with each other is one of the best assets a legislative member can bring with them.
Upgrading our system of health care delivery. We must stay out in front of disasters by being ready for them when they present. We must also stay out in front of and upgrade existing contingencies of how we deal with incurable health issues such as Alzheimer's as the Baby Boom generation ages into the demographic where it is prevalent.
Yes, I do. A legislative body is very like the Navy in that no one member has any real say in who gets put on their boat, so to speak. For better or worse, you learn to get along with who you get thrown in with. You don't have to like the member next to you on a personal level but learning to work together with them constructively can mean the difference in reaching consensus and a positive outcome within the time allotted or complete failure to achieve mission objective.
