Bowden ran in the 2012 election for Georgia State Senate District 9. Bowden and Steve Ramey were defeated by incumbent Don Balfour in the Republican primary on July 31, 2012. Scott Drake ran unopposed in the Democratic primary. The general election took place on November 6, 2012.[1][3]
