Biography
Overstreet supplied the following biography to Ballotpedia:[1]
| “ |
I grew up in Harriman and attended Trenton Street Baptist Church. My father owned a neighborhood grocery store and I learned many, many valuable lessons from that wonderful opportunity. Later, it became Chuck’s Deli, and where I worked part-time during high school. Some of my closest friendships today began in elementary school, that’s a heck of a good feeling. I’m engaged in my community and this allows me to interact with people I’ve known all my life, and that’s a big healthy positive. I attended Roane State Community College after high school and then I went to Tennessee Tech where I earned my Bachelor and Master’s degree. I’ve been employed in behavioral healthcare my entire career and hold licenses as a professional counselor and senior psychological examiner. I’ve been a board member with the Tennessee Psychological Association, a statewide organization, for many years. I still maintain a small West Knoxville psychotherapy practice in addition to operating a small real estate business. My family has owned and operated several small local businesses. I have two beautiful daughters, Abby, in Chattanooga working with TVA, and Olivia, in Nashville working for Lyft. These days I’m the caretaker for my girls’ two dogs and three cats, otherwise known as my pets. I once served a couple of years as the chair for Harriman’s Economic Advisory Team and one of our big projects was a community vision process, much like Nine Counties, One Vision. I served one term as a school board member for Kingston. [2] |

Overstreet made the following statement to Ballotpedia regarding his political philosophy: [1]
| “ |
I′m running as an Independent because I believe it′s the only way to bring us together to do the hard work it is gong to require to keep our beautiful District a great place to live and work and raise families. We have to work together if we are going make certain this area remains a high quality of life destination. We need better jobs so our children can have better lives right here in our district without having to move away. We need to support our teachers and traditional schools. We need to work for meaningful drug policies that emphasize recovery over incarceration. We need everyone, regardless of means, to have access to affordable high speed internet. Broadband internet is crucial to any community′s future success, whether it relates to businesses and the jobs they bring, or schools. Modern education is increasingly internet dependent and I'll work to make universally affordable internet access a reality. All of us have to come together as one force for the betterment of our communities. That′s why I′m asking for your support and your vote in November. [2] |
