Campaign themes

2017

Gray's campaign website included the following themes:

Affordable Housing
NYCHA currently has a $17 billion deficit of unmet housing repairs from leaky roofs and mold remediation to unreliable heating systems and broken elevators. Meanwhile, wealthy developers are receiving tax breaks to build luxury condos. We must work to ensure that no family is left living in deplorable conditions and work to increase investment in affordable housing.

Economic Growth
In recent years we have seen Lenox Lounge, Mobay's, Harlem Lanes, and other local black-owned businesses close while new businesses thrive. If others can succeed off Harlem's economy then those that live here should be able to do so as well. I will work to support local businesses by directing funds into programs that support small businesses and help grow Harlem’s economy.

Education
Having attended public school K-12th grade, I understand the challenges faced by teachers and students in overpopulated/unfunded schools. Although some have opted to send their children to charter and private schools, education should not be a luxury afforded to those with economic means or those with good fortune. We must work to increase funding and resources to public schools to ensure that none of our children are unprepared for success.[5][6]
