Ortiz earned a B.A. in political science from Lehman College.[1]

At the time of his 2017 run for city council, Ortiz was a teacher. His experience also includes service as a recreational leader for the drug rehabilitation program Promesa Inc. and as an intern for New York Assemblyman Roberto Ramirez (D) and U.S. Rep. Jose Serrano (D).[1]
