My name is Dr. Vincent Richardson and I am a licensed K-8 teacher, who is currently teaching STEM at a local elementary school in Las Vegas and I am an adjunct Education Psychology professor at a local college in Las Vegas. I am a former United States Army Military Police sergeant and I am native to North Las Vegas. Throughout my life, I have worked in many facets of education, and law enforcement. Problem solving is my passion and mentoring young people to become successful is my life's work. Currently, I have 5 college degrees, ranging from Criminal Justice to Education Administration Leadership. I, along with other educators, have worked to change under performing schools to become successful. I truly believe in setting high expectations and student achievement; however, students need to be equipped to meet those demands. As a teacher, a mentor, a neighbor and citizen of Nevada, I want help create policy that will make a difference in the lives of our students.
  • As an educator, I bring many years of educational experience and community resources .
  • As an educational leader, I have the talent and know how to assist other members to propel students in to 21st century learning.
  • As an advocate for education, I currently sit on several community boards that influence community engagement and promote education.
In 2017, I gave my support to the Nevada Advisory Commission on Mentoring (AB144) and I helped to create the procedures for the Nevada Promise Scholarship in 2018, which provided free tuition for thousands of Nevada High school graduates. I am passionate about creating a pathway for Nevada's students. In 2016, I co-created a successful college mentoring program for minority males. As a college mentor, I learned that many students entered in to college without a support system. I believe that we really need to take a look at the following:

-How are we preparing students to be college and career ready for the 21st century?
-What are the benchmarks or indicators to be college and career ready?
-What does it look like to be college and career ready in Nevada versus anywhere else?
-What type of opportunities are we providing for students in Nevada?
-With are currently situation, have we built the capacity for 21st century teaching and learning so that students are prepared for college and careers?

I further believe that exposure, opportunity and education is the keys of life.

I look up to Congressman John Lewis. Congressman Lewis is a humble man and a moral leader in his community. He has sacrificed so much in order for all Americans can have the right to vote. He has given me advise and direction in life. And to that, I am grateful.

I could only hope to follow in his footsteps to serve with honor.
The first historical even that happened in my lifetime that I remember was when the Space Shuttle Challenger accident in 1986. I was in elementary school. I believe that there was a teacher onboard the shuttle that succumb to her death along with the others. As a young boy watching the tragic event unfold before my eyes, I could not help to think about the crew members losing their lives.

Similar to the crew members, young people need to reach for the stars and know that the sky is truly the limit. I try to be an example to young people by being a role model. Like to crew members living out their wildest dreams, to reach the outer limits, I have used education as a catapult to obtain the highest degree in education.
