January had seen the highest number of announcements of any month at 73. The fewest announcements—16—happened in June.

During odd-number years, when no regular congressional elections were held, November had the highest number of announcements at 49. January saw the highest number of even-year announcements at 51.

Number of members who announced they would not run for re-election, by month

January had the highest number of members announcing they would not run for re-election at 73. Fifty-one of those took place during election years and 22 during odd-number years. The fewest announcements took place in June at 16. In June, 13 happened during off years and three during election years.
