Three of the seven seats on the Wentzville R-IV School District school board were up for general election on April 5, 2016. No incumbents filed for re-election. A special election for a one-year term on the board included Kurtis Daniels, Damien Pisciotta and Lezlie Stephens. Two seats were up for regularly scheduled election. Candidates Saundra Garber, Dale Schaper, Jennifer Simpson, Jackson Thompson and Betsy Bates filed for the regularly scheduled election. Schaper and Simpson each won a regular, three-year term while Daniels won a one-year term in the special election.[1]

The Wentzville school board consists of seven members who are elected at large to staggered three-year terms. There was no primary election, and the general election was held on April 5, 2016. Two seats were up for general election and one seat was up for special election in 2016. The general election will be canceled if the number of candidates equals the number of board vacancies. [2]

An individual must be a registered voter in order to vote in a school election. In order to vote, a person must be 18 years of age or older, must be a citizen of the United States, and must reside in the school district for 30 days. School board candidates must be at least 24 years of age, have lived in the state for one year, and cannot be a convicted felon.[2]

Wentzville R-IV School District is located in east-central Missouri in St. Charles County. The seat of county government is St. Charles. St. Charles County was home to 379,493 residents in 2014, according to the United States Census Bureau.[4] The district was the 13th-largest school district in the state in the 2013–2014 school year and served 14,549 students.[5]

Demographics

St. Charles County outperformed the state of Missouri in terms of higher education achievement in 2013. The United States Census Bureau found that 35.1 percent of St. Charles County residents aged 25 years and older had attained a bachelor's degree, compared to 26.2 percent for Missouri as a whole. The median household income in St. Charles County was $71,077, compared to $47,380 for the state of Missouri. The poverty rate in St. Charles County was 5.8 percent, compared to 15.5 percent for the entire state.[4]
