Jeffery Peress was a 2016 Green Party candidate for District 13 of the New York State Assembly.

Campaign themes

2014

Peress' campaign website highlighted the following issues:[1]

  • Favors public campaign finance laws
  • Favors lowering of property and sales tax, and eventually eliminating property taxes and replacing them with a personal income tax
  • Favors reinstating revenue sharing and restoring the pre 1972 tax level brackets
  • Favors a progressive tax giving a higher tax bracket to the wealthy and a tax break for the lower to middle income earners
  • Favors raising the state minimum wage to $15/hr
  • Favors free education from day care through universities/vocational schools.
  • Favors single payer, universal health care coverage – Medicare for All
  • Favors legalization of marijuana
  • Opposes hydraulic fracturing (fracking) and favors a total statewide ban

Elections for the New York State Assembly took place in 2016. The primary election took place on September 13, 2016, and the general election was held on November 8, 2016. The filing deadline for major party candidates was July 14, 2016. The filing deadline for independent candidates was August 23, 2016.

Incumbent Charles Lavine defeated Jeffrey S. Vitale and Jeffery J. Peress in the New York State Assembly District 13 general election.[2][3]

Elections for the New York State Assembly took place in 2014. A primary election took place on September 9, 2014. The general election took place on November 4, 2014. The signature filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was July 10, 2014. Incumbent Charles Lavine was unopposed in the Democratic primary, while Louis Imbroto was unopposed in the Republican primary. Jeffery J. Peress ran as a Green Party candidate. Lavine ran on the Working Families Party, Women's Equality Party and Independence Party of New York State tickets and Imbroto ran on the Conservative Party ticket. Lavine defeated Imbroto and Peress in the general election.[6][7][8]

Louis Imbroto ran unopposed in the Republican primary; he also ran on the Conservative Party ticket. Peress was defeated by Charles Lavine in the general election, which took place on November 6, 2012.[9][10][11]
