I'm a proud born and raised Texan. As a child, my parents taught me the value of hard work and fighting for what I believe in. As a parent, that's exactly what I teach my children. I graduated from high school early and got my business marketing major from UT Tyler. My family and I are proud members of the Calvary Baptist Church of Henderson. With my husband Kirk and my father-in-law Ken, I help run our family business Boatcycle. Like many others, I realized just how scary big government can be during the height of the pandemic. More than the threat of a virus, we saw just how threatening unchecked power can be. I was fearful for my business, I was fearful for my ability to worship, and I was certainly fearful of what would happen without good people stepping up to the plate. So I stepped up and got involved. I found my mission in being a grassroots advocate at the local and state level. I paid attention to the 87th legislative session which only cemented my view that now, and more than ever, we need strong, accountable, and bold leadership in our Legislature.
Protecting the taxpayers is certainly an issue I'm passionate about. That umbrella statement can fit so many of my policy positions. For starters, I am in favor of zero-based budgeting which requires state agencies to testify before the Legislature as to why they need X amount of dollars. I support banning taxpayer-funded lobbying which allows our tax dollars to be used to work against us on, among other issues, property tax reform. I believe we need strong property tax reform with the goal of eventual elimination all together. I am also a staunch supporter of personal liberties. Right now, the most popular effort to encroach on our liberties are coming in the form of mask and vaccine mandates. The decision to wear a mask or get a vaccine is yours to make and not the role of government to mandate; I will always fight to protect that. Lastly, I vehemently oppose Critical Race Theory and will fight to keep every form of this concept out of Texas schools.
