Scorecards

See also: State legislative scorecards and State legislative scorecards in New York

A scorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.

Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.

Click here for an overview of legislative scorecards in all 50 states.  To contribute to the list of New York scorecards, email suggestions to editor@ballotpedia.org.

Arrested on a charge of criminal obstruction of breathing, January 12, 2021

On January 12, 2021, Sepúlveda was arrested on a charge that he choked his wife after he turned himself in to the police. Sepúlveda's wife had called the police on the morning of Jan. 9. When officers arrived, Sepúlveda and his wife each claimed the other had assaulted them.[13]

As reported by The New York Times, Sepúlveda's lawyer said, “This false accusation [by Sepúlveda's wife] is a calculated attempt by a disgruntled party to leverage a divorce settlement from a case she filed in Florida this past November."[13]

Andrea Stewart-Cousins (D) announced that Sepúlveda would be removed as chairman of the Crime Victims, Crime and Correction Committee and stripped of all his committee assignments.[13]

On October 4, 2021, the Bronx District Attorney's office dropped all charges against Sepúlveda, stating that they were unable to meet the burden of proof and that Sepúlveda's wife did not wish to testify against her husband.[14]
