The city of Gilbert, Arizona, held elections for mayor and city council on November 8, 2016. A primary election took place on August 30, 2016. The filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was June 1, 2016. Mayor John Lewis did not seek re-election because he accepted a job with East Valley Partnership.[1] Councilwoman Jenn Daniels was the only candidate to file for the position of mayor. There were two at-large seats on the city council up for election. Incumbent Jared Taylor sought another term alongside six other candidates.[2] Taylor, Joel Anderson, Scott Anderson, and Jim Torgenson advanced to the general election, where Taylor and Scott Anderson won election to the two seats.
