James Uthmeier (Republican Party) is the Attorney General of Florida. He assumed office on February 18, 2025. His current term ends on January 2, 2029.

Uthmeier was the campaign manager for Florida Governor Ron DeSantis' (R) 2024 presidential campaign.[1] Uthmeier worked as the chief of staff for DeSantis' gubernatorial administration from October 2021 through August 2023.[2] Click here to read more about campaign managers in the 2024 presidential election.
On January 16, 2025, Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) announced that he intended to appoint Uthmeier attorney general to replace Ashley B. Moody after she was appointed to the U.S. Senate.[3] Uthmeier took office on February 17, 2025.[4]
Biography
Uthmeier earned a bachelor's degree and graduate degree from the University of Florida and a law degree from the Georgetown University Law Center.[5] Uthmeier's career experience includes working as a senior counsel and senior advisor in the U.S. Department of Commerce during the Trump administration from 2017 to 2019. He began working in the office of Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) in 2019 as a deputy general counsel, and in 2020 was promoted to general counsel.[5]
From October 2021 through August 2023, Uthmeier served as DeSantis' chief of staff in the Florida governor's office.[2] In August 2023, he became campaign manager for DeSantis' 2024 presidential campaign, following the resignation of former campaign manager Generra Peck.[1]
