Balvir Singh, a husband, a father, a mathematician by training, and a public school educator by profession is proud to represent the Legislative District 7 and serve as the first Sikh legislator in the state’s history.

A lifelong champion of resilience and opportunity, Singh spent his early childhood in a small village in Punjab, India before immigrating to the United States with his family. Settling in Burlington City, Singh graduated from Burlington City High School and went on to earn a BA - Mathematics (The College of New Jersey, '07), an M.Sc. - Mathematics (Rutgers University, '09), and a supervisory certificate from Rowan University, '15. With nearly two decades of experience as a public school educator and a passion for shaping the next generation, Singh brings a unique perspective to policymaking.

Singh served on the Burlington Township Board of Education from 2015 to 2017, before his election to the Burlington County Board of Commissioners in 2017. As a Burlington County Commissioner in his 3rd term, Singh worked to address affordable housing, economic development, and public health, supporting initiatives such as distributing over $13 million in rental assistance, launching zero-interest loans for businesses, and efforts to construct a 60-bed emergency shelter for the county’s most vulnerable residents.
  • My personal political aspiration is to serve as an advocate for the people, ensuring that every decision I make is rooted in fairness, equity, and progress. I aim to use my voice and platform to address critical issues such as affordable housing, education, economic opportunity, and environmental justice.
  • I aspire to strengthen the connection between government and the people by fostering transparency, accessibility, and meaningful dialogue. My goal is not just to hold office but to create lasting change that uplifts working families, protects individual rights, and builds stronger communities.
  • My aspiration is to be a representative who listens to and delivers for the people, creating policies and programs that make a tangible difference in their lives while upholding the values of democracy and justice.
I want to work on solutions to increase our regional housing inventory, ensuring that homeownership becomes an attainable goal for more families.

Homeownership provides more than just shelter; it’s the foundation for stability and upward mobility, opening doors to better education, greater financial security, and stronger communities.

Our communities’ very own workforce is struggling to become homeowners, with rising housing costs and limited inventory pushing this dream further out of reach. By prioritizing affordable housing initiatives, incentivizing sustainable development, and streamlining policies that encourage responsible growth, we can address this critical issue.
I believe our government should be a reflection of the people it serves: diverse, inclusive, and deeply connected to the challenges and aspirations of its residents. I want to be a candidate who listens, learns, and leads, working tirelessly to ensure that our communities have the resources and opportunities they need to thrive.
I want to be a candidate because I believe in the power of public service to create meaningful change in people’s lives. My own journey—from growing up in a

household that relied on free school lunch to becoming an educator and public servant—has shown me the importance of equitable policies that uplift working families, provide access to quality education, and expand opportunities for all.

I’ve dedicated my career to advocating for those whose voices are often unheard, from addressing housing insecurity to ensuring fiscal responsibility while expanding essential services in Burlington County. I want to bring that same commitment to the State Assembly to tackle the pressing issues our communities face, like the housing crisis, educational disparities, and the urgent need for climate

action.
Teacher; 18+ years and still loving it.
I strongly believe that financial transparency and government accountability are fundamental to maintaining public trust. Taxpayers deserve to know how their hard-earned money is being spent, and government officials must be held accountable for responsible fiscal management.

Open & Accessible Budgets – Government budgets should be clear, detailed, and easily accessible to the public. I support regular audits, public budget hearings, and detailed financial reports to ensure transparency.

Spending with Purpose – Every dollar spent should be justified and aligned with serving the community’s needs, whether in education, infrastructure, or social services. Wasteful spending must be eliminated.

Ethical Leadership & Oversight – Public officials should be held to the highest ethical standards, with strong oversight mechanisms to prevent corruption, conflicts of interest, and misuse of funds.

Citizen Engagement – Residents should have a voice in government spending decisions. I advocate for more community input opportunities, including town halls and digital platforms for budget feedback.

I am committed to responsible governance, fiscal integrity, and ensuring that government remains accountable to the people it serves.

Scorecards

A scorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.

Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.
