Issues
Haldenwang outlined her views across a number of issues on her campaign site:
Economic Opportunity
Excerpt:"Loretta made her professional mark by helping small mom and pop businesses as well as multi-million dollar enterprises grow — creating jobs in a difficult economic environment. In Austin, Loretta will work to attract new businesses and investment to North Texas to ensure that our community continues to be a place where hardworking Texans can find a good job."
Education

Excerpt:"In today’s economy, a good education is the key to economic success. The needs of Texas students, educators and schools must be a top priority for decision makers in Austin, to ensure that every Texas child has the opportunity to achieve his or her full potential.
Every year the price of a college education grows further out of reach of hardworking Irving families. Today, tuition costs in North Texas have more than doubled. As our next state representative, Loretta will make sure that the door to a college education is open to every child who is willing to put in the work."
Utility Rates
Excerpt:"Year after year, Texas families have seen their utility rates grow, putting pressure on Irving families and making it harder to attract new businesses to our state. Since the Legislature deregulated the utility industry, Texans have gone from paying some of the lowest rates in the nation to some of the highest. Loretta will work to reform the utility system in Texas, to ensure working families are able to make ends meet and to help businesses continue to produce the jobs Irving needs."
Border Security
Excerpt:"Loretta recognizes that the federal government has failed in its responsibility to control our border. For that reason, she supports deploying National Guard resources made available by the draw down of the conflict in Iraq to the Texas border to prevent illicit crossings. As Dallas County lies at the intersection of three major corridors for the transportation of illegal drugs, preventing the entry of drugs and drug dealers through a porous border is essential to protecting our neighborhoods here in Irving."
Budget Deficit
Excerpt:"In 2003, the Legislature faced a $10 billion deficit and balanced the budget on the backs of Texas’s public schools, teachers and students. As we enter 2011, the projected deficit is now $21 billion. As Loretta recognizes that education is the currency of the future, she will not allow the state to slash funds from our school budgets again. Loretta understands that lawmakers must both balance the budget and protect our economic revival, which is why she opposes proposals that would put a greater tax burden on small businesses or establish an income tax. Loretta will work to protect public school budgets, and to close the gap in Texas’s budget through cuts to less essential programs and use of the Rainy Day Fund."[1]
