Charles Day
Charles Bernard Day is a federal magistrate judge for the United States District Court for the District of Maryland. He was first appointed to this position on February 18, 1997, and he was reappointed on October 1, 2020. His current term will expire on February 18, 2029.[1]
Early life and education
Judge Day was born on April 12, 1957 in Dothan, Alabama. He received his B.A. degree in criminal justice from the University of Maryland in 1978. He then earned an M.S. degree in judicial administration from The American University in 1980 and a J.D. degree from the University of Maryland School of Law in 1984.[2]
Professional career
Judge Day began his career in 1985 as an Assistant State’s Attorney for Montgomery County, Maryland. In 1989, he became a civil litigation attorney with the firm Sherman, Meehan, Curtin & Ain. He worked in this position until he was appointed to the U.S. District Court in 1997.[1]

On July 21, 2010, President Obama nominated Day for judge on the United States District Court for the District of Maryland. Day has served as a Magistrate on this court since 1997.[3] Judge Day was recommended to President Obama by Senators Barbara Mikulski and Ben Cardin.[4][5]

Day's nomination was returned to the President at the end of the 111th Congress on December 22, 2010. President Obama resubmitted the nomination on January 5, 2011. On October 31, 2011, Barack Obama withdrew the nomination of Charles Day.[7] No reason was given for withdrawing the nomination of Day to the District of Maryland.
