MAKE US ENERGY INDEPENDENT As Senator, I will work tirelessly to free American industry and ingenuity to increase the domestic production of energy. We must not be solely focused one type of energy, but instead increase our production of all types of energy from oil and natural gas to renewables. Our current energy crisis was not inevitable—it was the direct result of the failed policies of the Biden Administration. They could have kept us on a path of energy independence and low gas prices. They chose to side with left-wing interest groups over the American people. These radical policies hurt all Americans at the gas pump as prices have soared to the highest levels seen in more than a decade. Until we change course, we will not see the economic relief that businesses and families desperately need.
The Biden Administration’s proposed tax increases as well as its ongoing destruction of work incentives and wasteful, inflationary spending threaten our economy. For instance, rather than address rising inflation, President Biden and the Democrat-led Congress passed the $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan, which former Clinton Administration Treasury Secretary Larry Summers labeled as “the least responsible macroeconomic policy we’ve had in the last 40 years.” As a result of this out-of-control spending, prices are up 8.5% from last year and expected to rise even more. President Biden’s inflation means that the average U.S. household will spend an extra $5,200 this year ($433 per month) compared to last year for the same amount of goods and services. America is hurting, and junior Senator Tammy Duckworth continues to rubber stamp the failed Biden policies to spend more and produce less. The best way to grow the economy is through a small, limited government that controls spending, promotes growth, and does not overburden its citizens with taxes and regulations. I support policies that get government out of the way and let small business owners do what they do best—innovate and create new jobs. We cannot afford the failed Biden/Duckworth agenda. We need to open America up to business again.
The federal government’s first priority is to ensure our borders are safe and secure. Today, the United States is facing a massive national security threat and humanitarian crisis at our southern border due to the Biden Administration. Tons of deadly drugs flood across the border and into our communities, taking countless American lives. For instance, in the last year alone, the amount of fentanyl that flooded across our border was enough to kill every American four times over—and much of it originated in China. Additionally, at the start of the Covid epidemic, the government issued protections to prevent illegal border crossers from bringing Covid into the United States. President Biden wants to remove this protection and has no plan on how to address the huge increase of migrants that will follow. The situation is chaotic and dire, and President Biden’s illogical and incompetent policies are throwing rocket fuel on a fire already burning out of control. As your next Senator, I will fight to secure the border. This includes blocking the flow of drugs, human trafficking, terrorists, and other dangerous criminals. I will also support policies that provide necessary funding for more officers to patrol our border and detect drugs.
The progressive policies and the destructive rhetoric used by Democrat politicians in Washington to “defund the police” increase crime and erode the rule of law. Recent data shows that Chicago has seen a 36 percent increase in overall crime since last year. The rise in crime is also due to the radical, progressive prosecutors who are not prosecuting those who break the law, and those they are prosecuting are increasingly benefiting from a revolving door system of justice. While cities across America are cutting police funding as part of the “Defund the Police” movement, we are seeing record police retirements and fewer people seeking to join law enforcement. I will always stand with the police. This includes giving them the resources they need to do their jobs and to protect our communities. It also means standing for the rule of law and holding those who break the law accountable.
It is the duty and responsibility of every parent to educate their children and best prepare them for success. Parents therefore have the right to make decisions on behalf of their children. It is time that parents move from the back seat to the driver’s seat when it comes to their children’s education and for government bureaucrats to stop seeking power and control over our children. Because it is not the federal government’s role to dictate school policies at the local level, it is crucial we support parents who are becoming more involved with local governments to protect their children. I encourage all parents to attend school board meetings, to run for local office, and to get involved in the day-to-day decisions that shape educational policy. Their voice should be heard and it should count because parents are the primary educators of their children.
Peace through strength requires strong, decisive leadership. President Biden’s chaotic and disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan not only marked a low point in America’s leadership abroad, but it also renewed aggression by evil dictators around the world. The world is an unstable place today because of it. Today we are witnessing war and violence in Ukraine perpetrated by Vladimir Putin to seize more land and power. The United States should have acted before Putin’s invasion. Now it is too late for the U.S. to deter Putin, but we can try to minimize the damage caused by Biden’s incompetence and lack of leadership. I am in favor of a strategy that will help Ukraine win and end the human suffering. Congress needs to reassert its authority on foreign policy and fill the backstop left by Biden’s failed leadership. I will put partisanship aside and work to ensure that Congress implements strong, decisive leadership for a more stable and peaceful world.[3] |
