Biography
Smith was born in Las Vegas, Nevada. He received a bachelor's degree in political science from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and a law degree from the Lewis and Clark College of Law. His career experience includes working as an attorney.[1][2]

- Making Sure Our Representatives Work for the People, Not Wealthy Donors: I am running to end the corrupting influence of money in politics so we can have a true government of the people. I will fight to pass the lowest campaign contribution limits in the country and to ban any corporation doing business in Nevada from donating to any candidate or political party. You know I mean what I say because I am the only candidate in this race refusing to take a penny from any corporation or corporate PAC.
- Make the Mining Industry Pay Its Fair Share and Use the Revenue to Make Life Affordable for Nevadans: The mining industry has a protected tax status in the Nevada Constitution that caps the industry's taxes at a certain percent of net proceeds. This allows mining companies to take advantage of Nevadans by not paying their fair share. We must repeal this constitutional provision and bring in over $1 billion per year from the mining industry. We will use this revenue to pass universal childcare, debt-free college, improve K-12 education, and invest in public transportation.
- Fight Predatory Landlords and Stop Corporations From Buying Up Nevada's Housing Supply: Houses are for people, not for corporations. Yet about 25% of the Vegas area homes are owned by corporations. This has to stop. I will work to ban corporations from cornering the housing supply in Nevada. We also must stop predatory landlords from using AI and algorithms to engage in price fixing, which on average raises rents by about $90 - $100 per month in the Las Vegas area.
