Elections for the Alabama State Senate took place in 2014. A primary election took place on June 3, 2014; a runoff election took place where necessary on July 15, 2014. The general election was held on November 4, 2014. The signature filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was February 7, 2014. Clyde Chambliss Jr., Suzelle Josey, Harris Garner and Bill Harris faced off in the Republican primary. Because no candidate received more than 50 percent of the votes, the top two vote-getters - Chambliss and Garner - met in a runoff election, which Chambliss won.[2] Chambliss defeated Bryan Morgan (I) in the general election.[3][4][5][6]

Chambliss' website highlighted the following campaign themes:[7]
- Economic Development
- "The key to economic development is to know how the public and private sectors interact, to make smart investments, and to anticipate what is coming around the next corner. Having worked as an engineer, and for the Central Alabama Electric Cooperative, as well during my time on the Autauga County Commission, I have worked on many economic development projects, including The Robert Trent Jones Golf Course, TWB, Tenaska, and Southern Generation. With each project, we brought everyone to the table, and made sure that existing revenues were protected and that incentives came out of new revenues. If I am elected to be your next state senator, I will continue this regional approach to the issues. I will be a representative for all the people of the district, not just a select few."
- Education
- "I believe in a strong public education system in Alabama. Our district has experienced huge growth in the past 15 years because parents are seeking better options for their children’s education. We attract a large number of military families stationed at Maxwell/Gunter Air Force Base due to our strong public schools. Companies seeking to locate in our area inquire early about educational opportunities for the children of their employees and to determine if the educated workforce they need will be available. I will work to retain our local strengths, increase opportunities, and keep the bureaucracy of Washington out of our schools."
- Fiscal Discipline
- "When I decided to run for The Autauga County Commission, it was because I saw our tax money was being misused. I ran to put a stop to it, and we did. During my tenure on the commission, we built a jail (which included an agreement between the city and the county that saved us both money), built a Probate Office, paved over 30 miles of dirt roads, built many bridges, and provided incentives for economic development. We did all of this while building our total account balance to $13.3 million (which was nearly as the total yearly revenue). Autauga County has weathered the worst of the economic crisis without laying off or furloughing county employees because of the decisions we made back then. I am proud of my fiscal record, because that is YOUR money – and I don’t think anyone has the right to spend it frivolously."

Scorecards
A scorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.
Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.
