Biography

Bryan Muñoz was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Muñoz's professional experience includes working as a public educator. He earned a bachelor's degree from Purdue University in 2009 and a graduate degree from Indiana Wesleyan University in 2014.

Who are you? Tell us about yourself.

Bryan is a highly respected teacher in Columbus and the State of Indiana. A product of a single mother and working class, his focus is on providing a better life for Hoosiers in District 41 and the entire state. He holds a Bachelors of Science in Music Education and a Masters in Education Leadership. He has been a public educator for 13 years and has been named Northeast Indiana Music Educator of the Year, an Indiana Teacher of the Year Semi-Finalist, and Teacher of The Year in his school corporations.

Inside the classroom, Bryan focuses on developing students into servant leaders for their communities. Outside of the classroom, he is a well respected and sought after educator to lead professional development sessions on leadership, student retention, and classroom culture.

Bryan is a proud member of his local and state union. He holds membership in the Indiana State School Music Association, National Educators Music Association, NEA, ISTA, and more.

Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?

• Supports Public Education
• Supports higher wages and better jobs for middle class families
• Focus on local control of taxes, transportation, and other policy making issues.

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

Bryan is passionate about public education and the positive impact it has on our communities. He believes that stronger public schools will strengthen our communities, and because of this, a focus on fully funding education is paramount. Teachers are experts in their field of study as well as in the cognitive development of children. As a state, we should work to empower those experts to collaborate with their communities to make decisions on what is best for our children at the local level.

What qualities do you possess that you believe would make you a successful officeholder?

Integrity. I believe if you have integrity nothing else matters. And if you don't have integrity, nothing else matters.

What do you believe are the core responsibilities for someone elected to this office?

The core responsibility of someone for elected office is to serve. Too often we see elected officials selfishly making life altering decisions for their own benefit. We are to serve those in our community regardless of political affiliation. We are to listen, and respond to their needs appropriately.

What was your very first job? How long did you have it?

My first job was at the age of 14 working at a local pizza shop. Our mother, raising four kids on her own, taught us the value of hard work and taking control of our own future. Since the age of 14 I have had many jobs putting myself through college and earning my degree to build a life that gives back to my community.

What was the last song that got stuck in your head?

Two Step by Dave Matthews Band.

What do you believe is the ideal relationship between the governor and state legislature?

One of open communication and a balanced agenda on social and economic issues.

What do you perceive to be your state's greatest challenges over the next decade?

Our state's greatest challenges over the next decade will be bringing better paying jobs to our towns, protecting our rural farming communities, and becoming a leader in social change.

Tell us your favorite joke.

I would tell you a joke about an unsharpened pencil. But there's not point.

Do you believe that compromise is necessary or desirable for policymaking?

Compromise is a the core of our democratic process. If we are to serve our entire community, we must value and respect differing views and work to make a better life for everyone we serve.
