2016

Darnell's campaign website highlighted the following issues:

Taxes

  • Taxes are redistribution of wealth and a hardship on every family paying them. They create burden and they destroy job. I am not an extremist, but I will resist any and all efforts to increase taxes on small businesses and individuals.

Housing

  • Ending unlawful foreclosure in our state. Over 80% of people who should qualify for HAMP after being told to stop paying their mortgages are not approved even though they should qualify. This practice must stop and I will make it a priority to sponsor legislation to amend and/or repeal the Deed of Trust Act (DTA), which is fast -tracking unlawful foreclosure in our state. The way the DTA is exercised now is effectively a denial of due process. A third party judicial substitute, known as a trustee over see the process with a duty of good faith to the borrower and the bank but this party is hired by the bank and often ignores the homeowners concerns and challenges. There are some relatively minor changes to the DTA that could be made to make it a more system while protecting the original intent: making foreclosure less costly and more efficient.

Education

When I elected I will:

  • Work to make sure every child in this state has access to the best quality education possible, regardless of the socioeconomic class of their family. This is key to income equality and is fair to all students. Currently, only the wealthiest kids in the best neighborhoods have access to the best education. This is not fair. Teachers are limited and do not have the resources and compensation they deserve. I will work to fix this by examining models that work and by listening to stakeholders from a variety of viewpoints.

Transportation

  • I am disgusted by the transportation situation in my district. Accidents have increased by over 50% and we all spending more time in our cars and less time with our families as we sit in traffic and spew emissions in to the air. Commerce is impacted as transport of goods are stalled in daily traffic.[9]
