Carolyn McNatt Hill
Carolyn McNatt Hill was a 2012 Democratic candidate for District 18 of the Oklahoma House of Representatives.
McNatt Hill worked for the Oklahoma Department of Correction for 12 years, serving as an Intern Case Manager, Correctional Officer, and Senior Case Manager. During that time she also served on the Board of the Oklahoma Public Employee Association. She is a member of the NRA, Elks Lodge # 533, the Order of the Eastern Star Eufaula Chapter 161, and Oklahomans for Responsible Water Policy.[1]

Carolyn feels her vision for District 18 is a reflection of all citizens District 18 and Oklahoma. While visiting with many residents she encounters our citizen’s voice pleading for greater employment opportunities, adequate funding of rural schools, law enforcement and fire departments/emergency medical responders and better county roads. Carolyn McNatt, age 50, a life-time resident of McAlester, announces that she is seeking the position of Oklahoma House of Representatives, District 18. Carolyn has been dedicated to helping her friends and neighbors her entire life. She will emphasize a person-to-person approach while working to bring economic and quality-of-life improvements to Oklahoma and especially District 18. Carolyn has been interested and active in politics for more than 20 years. She has strived to keep herself well informed and actively involved with issues that affect her family, neighbors, friends and our rural surroundings. She has supported many candidates with whom she shares a vision for a better Oklahoma, beginning at age 14, by actively participating in statewide campaigns for Governor of Oklahoma. Throughout her life she has worked on many other political campaigns and possesses the experience to know campaigns should be more about serving the needs and desires of the people than individual or party type politics. McNatt is a past District Director for Oklahoma Public Employees Association and has lobbied at the State Capitol to support legislation for that organization. She was a member of funding committees for OPEA and helped obtain one of the largest raises in recent years for its members. She has also participated in conferences nationwide alongside other Department of Corrections employees to halt privatization of Oklahoma prisons and correctional jobs. Carolyn strongly believes state agencies should not be run by private organizations, which all too often leads to little or no oversight; and invariably cost more in tax-payer dollars than do the State run agencies. Carolyn feels her vision for District 18 is a reflection of all citizens District 18 and Oklahoma. While visiting with many residents she encounters our citizen’s voice pleading for greater employment opportunities, adequate funding of rural schools, law enforcement and fire departments/emergency medical responders and better county roads. She sees the need for a strong support system for the elderly and child protective services such as the Department of Human Services. As with the majority of the people she has visited, she recognizes the huge problems created by drugs – both illegal and prescription drug abuse. Carolyn strongly believes State Legislators must work to find solutions, and ways of funding the problems we face and wants to be on the front lines of legislation that will provide answers and actions to improve the District and State. Recognizing the hardships of low-paying jobs or lack of available jobs only serves to compound the problems may of the people of rural Oklahoma face, Carolyn pledges to work to strengthen the economy by recruiting more industry and local investments to provide opportunities for better wage employment to District 18. Carolyn is also very concerned about with the controversy surrounding water rights in Oklahoma. She strongly believes that Oklahoma water should remain in Oklahoma and not be sold out of state, but preserved for future generations of Oklahomans and will work to see that individual water rights are not taken away. Carolyn believes she is the right candidate to be elected to represent the citizens of the District. She has experience working with Representatives and Senators and knows how to move an issue forward. She has sat with the Governor to work on bringing specific issues to fruition.. Carolyn also believes she has the personal life experiences that can help her serve and represent the needs of her constituents. She has faced the same victories and struggles as others in her district. While many of her life experiences have been joyful and easy, some have been painful and difficult, requiring hard work and determination to overcome both physically and emotionally. She knows life is not always easy and refuses to believe that life cannot be improved with dedication and hard work. Her strong Christian faith has always guided her actions and gives her strength to carry on, to try to do the right thing and see nothing as impossible to achieve. She looks forward to helping improve the lives of others in her district by applying the same principles of dedication and hard work that have carried her through life. Carolyn is the daughter of Marjorie and the late Everett McNatt (biological daughter of Patricia A. Smith). She has two sons, Jake McNatt and Bryan Johnson and five grandchildren, Makayla McNatt, Jake D. McNatt, Reid Patrick-Johnson, Trinity Rogers and Christopher Rogers. She is the sister of Sherry McNatt. McNatt attended Indianola Public Schools and graduated from McAlester High 1980. She attended Kiamichi Area Vo-Tech McAlester, then college at Eastern Oklahoma State College in Wilburton and graduated from Southeastern Oklahoma State College, Durant, Oklahoma in December, 1992 with a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice.
