Hapai ran in the 2012 election for Hawaii House of Representatives District 3. Hapai ran unopposed in the August 11 Republican primary and was defeated by Richard Onishi (D) in the general election, which took place on November 6, 2012.[1][2][3]

Hapai had no opposition in the September 18 primary. She lost to Democratic candidate Faye Hanohano in the general election.[4]
