Samuel Torres was a candidate for the 2011 Democratic Party nomination for District 35 of the New Jersey General Assembly. He was defeated by Shavonda Sumter and Benjie Wimberly in the primary on June 7.[1][2]

Nominating petitions challenged

While 14 signatures were disqualified, Torres survived a challenge to his nominating petitions, with a state administrative law judge ruling on April 21 that Torres should remain on the ballot.[3] Torres is one of two individuals who remained on the ballot after a challenge. Democratic candidate Maureen Vella is the other.
