Goedde graduated graduated with his bachelor's degree from Washington State University in 1972.
Goedde currently is the President of Panhandle Insurance. Goedde has served as the President of the company since 1983 after starting in the company as an agent in 1979. Goedde started his professional career in 1973 as Manager of the Hayden Lake Country Club. Goedde managed the club for six years before entering into the insurance industry.
Before becoming a Senator, Goedde was a School Board Trustee for Coeur d'Alene School District #271. Goedde was a board trustee from 1997 to 2000.

Goedde won re-election in the 2012 election for Idaho State Senate District 4. Goedde ran unopposed in the Republican primary on May 15 and defeated Warren A. Ducote Jr. (D) and Jeremy P. Boggess (I) in the general election which took place on November 6, 2012.[1][2]

Goedde had no opposition in the May 25 primary. He ran against Independent candidate, Jeremy Boggess, and Constitution candidate, Ray Writz, in the general election on November 2, 2010, defeating both.[3]
