Biography

Amy Spieker was born in Naples, Italy. She earned a bachelor’s degree from Pacific Lutheran University in 2009 and a master’s degree from the University of Washington in 2012. Spieker’s career experience includes working as the Director of Community Health and Analysis at Cheyenne Regional Medical Center and as the Executive Director of the Laramie County Community Partnership. She has also worked as a maternal and child health epidemiologist at the Wyoming Department of Health.

Who are you? Tell us about yourself.

Amy is a public health practitioner who believes in the transformative power of her profession. She recognizes that public health values are not represented in the Wyoming State Legislature and believes adding her perspective will create unique value for Wyomingites. As the daughter of a Navy doctor and dedicated PTA President, Amy saw what it meant to live community values, no matter what community her family landed in. After having lived in Cheyenne, Wyoming longer than any other place in her life, Amy has put down roots in her community and wants to help it grow. Much as Amy has helped improve the health of Laramie County citizens through her role as Director of Community Health and Analysis for the Cheyenne Regional Medical Center, Amy has the coalition-building skills to improve people's health and lives all across Wyoming.

Please list below 3 key messages of your campaign. What are the main points you want voters to remember about your goals for your time in office?

• Wyomingites deserve to be healthy. As a public health professional in the Legislature, I will work to expand affordable insurance options and increase access to telehealth.
• Better decisions are made when we hear from ALL Wyomingites. I will work to ensure voting in Wyoming is simple, safe and secure.
• Wyoming is worth the investment. I will work to difersfy Wyoming's economy and invest our people to set the stage for our future.

What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about?

As a public health professional, I am most passionate about policy that keeps us healthy where we live, learn, work, and play. This starts with making sure we can afford to see a doctor when we are sick . But being a healthy community goes far beyond that to policy that supports economic opportunity in a vibrant job market and affordable education. To have good health, we must keep workers safe at their jobs, we must keep Wyoming's air and land clean now and for the future, and we must work toward justice.

What was your very first job? How long did you have it?

My first job was working for a catering company in high school. I worked for the company for three years. I went out to catered events and helped plate and serve the food. Eventually they opened a restaurant, I worked as a barista, sometimes a hotesses, and sometimes the dishwasher. I liked working the catered events as they were generally in beautiful places.
